I doodle… a lot! Everywhere, on anything, at any time. I’m pretty sure I can lay blame on doodling for the development of my style. It’s almost like a kind of lucid writing but without words, as though my subconscious is sleep walking. Through the few times of upheaval or distress in my life, free flow doodling has been a form of therapy for me. I wish more people would draw in this way regardless of talent. Meaningless scribbles are often the most poignant and can help in so many ways.
Other times, my doodles are directly inspired by elements I have encountered. This particular piece, ‘The Great Exhibition’ was from thinking about the notion of colonial conquests, the cabinet de curiosités and ultimately the phenomenon of the western desire to collect other cultures and to museumise ourselves.
